If a court order is not being followed by a party, the other party may be able to file a contempt action to enforce the order and impose consequences for a party’s non-compliance with the underlying order. Contempt is a quasi-criminal proceeding that carries criminal penalties for a person who the court determines has violated a court order. The contempt remedy is only available as an enforcement tool for certain types of court orders.
